Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
